Paula Maher

Researcher with the IADT

Paula Maher, currently Research Assistant with Dun Laoghaire, Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT). Since qualifying as a librarian in 2003, she spent almost twenty years working in libraries and archives most recently in media across digital, television and radio in the RTÉ Archives.

She is passionate about equality, in 2021 Paula began her journey into the area of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), starting the Master of Business in EDI in IADT, for which she has recently submitted her dissertation. In 2022 she took up the position of Research Assistant with IADT with the Faculty of Enterprise and Humanities.

Research Project
Working Women and the Menopause: The Impact of Menopause on Careers in the Higher Education Sector in Ireland. This is a pilot project with IADT as the lead partner working with Atlantic Technological University Sligo (ATU Sligo) and Technological University Dublin (TUD). The objective of the research is to explore the lived experiences of a sample of women working in Irish higher education and the impact of the menopause on careers. Funding for this project has been secured from a Higher Education Authority (HEA) competitive bid under the Gender Equality Enhancement Fund. This fund was set up to advance gender equality initiatives in Irish higher education.
